    Destress with Deep Belly Breath

Are you a shallow breather? Shallow breathing is when the lungs are not completely filled when you inhale.  Think breathing into the top of the chest only.  Most people do not fully inhale when breathing so shallow breathing is extremely common. As a yoga teacher, birth doula + wellness practitioner Deep Breathing + connecting to Breath comes naturally to me now, but 10 years ago not so much. Like many of you, I was out here living and surviving in my shallow breath with no issues at all. But here is the thing. We don’t know what we don’t know. I had no idea how much of a disservice I…

    Time to Relax: 3 Tips

Ok, this is not a drill people, I need all hands on deck!! Today was the first day of back to school virtual learning + it is off to a very bumpy start. So much so that I found myself tightly wound by 11am. From the tech issues, to the extreme micromanagement down to the city deciding today was the day to work on the street behind my house. There was alot that didnt go as planned. Honestly I dont know that any amount of planning could have prepared us for how things would/could go today. 2020 has given us alot of lessons. One of the biggest lessons is to…

    Breathing Deep

Big inhale in through the nose, filling up the lungs. Open mouth exhale slowly allowing the breath to leave the lungs. Do this twice more, taking your time to inhale deeply and exhale fully. Did you know breathing is part of our life force? That stress + anxiety can be reduced and managed through your breath? In times of stress or anxiety the way that we breath can be affected, causing us to breathe at a shorter and faster rate. This increase in the pace or rate of your breathing causes you to take in less oxygen which of course adds more to your stress and anxiety.  Slowing your breathing…

    Making Sleep A Priority

Getting a good nights sleep is a form of self care for me. I have a sweet spot, its 7 hrs. After 7 solid hours of sleep at night I am a wonderful human being ready to kick ass. If I get anything less than 6 hrs, I’m still quite pleasant BUT the fuse is very very short. Now at this point in our lives I’m sure we all know the benefits of getting a solid amount of sleep each night. I’m also pretty sure we are all aware of the health benefits of being rested. The real question is how many of us are actually taking the steps to…

10 Affirmations to Say Every Day for a happier well-being

Affirmations are much more than chants or short statements you repeat to yourself. A simple habit of speaking positivity and prosperity over yourself has the ability to boost your mood and begin to incorporate a healthier and happier overall mindset. I have provided 10 affirmations that you can say at any time during the day, I personally prefer to say my affirmations first thing in the morning to set the tone of my day. I was re-reminded about the power of affirmations a few years back when watching this show “Being MaryJane” ( show has since been cancelled). On this show the main character MJ, creates sticky notes with different…

    Getting Grounded + Staying

In my forever pursuit of mindful living, I am always in search of ways to stay grounded and to keep my head in times of difficulties. Mindful living and being “grounded” basically go hand in hand like PB & J or mac n cheese, you truly can not have one without the other. But what does staying “grounded” really mean? In its simplest form being grounded is all about “Control”. Not control over all the outside stuff going on around us, like traffic, things not going as planned etc, but control over yourself, your emotions and the things you personally believe. To “stay grounded” means you have the ability to…
