Protecting Mental Health in a Digital World
This upcoming Saturday (Oct 10th) is World Mental Health day. And while I am all for Mental Health awareness EVERYDAY, I thought it would be a great idea to offer a few tips to help protect your mental health + energy during these virtual times. Right now businesses both big + small are coming to the same conclusion. That an online presence is a must at this point. Whether you are working for yourself. Someone else or even a combination of the two, you may have noticed the increase in the demand to stay connected. Connected These last few months we have seen it all, influx for digital content, virtual…

HealthCare Apps for BIPOC
Happy Thursday! I have been doing a ton of research since our conversation last week about mental health in BIPOC communities. Since July has been designated as a mental health awareness month for Black, Indigenous, People of Color more resources and information is being shared. Sharing these resources as I find them is extremely important to me because I understand how mental health care the same as physical health care is invaluable in leading a quality whole life. With the shift in conversation over race, inequality and rights, for the first time ever the blind spots in mental health care when it comes to people of color are being…

Mental Health + BIPOC
There is no secret + no surprise that people of color are one of the largest underrepresented groups when it comes to mental health care. July is marked as mental health awareness month for Black, Indigenous, People of Color and this topic of health is right on time. July has been designated to amplify the major need that is very apparent in our communities in a hope to take away the stigmata surrounding mental health. The shift Mental health especially in communities of color isn’t normalized or discussed openly. There has always been bit of a stigmata surrounding health care professionals and seeking out counseling. This is largely due to…

Breathing Deep
Big inhale in through the nose, filling up the lungs. Open mouth exhale slowly allowing the breath to leave the lungs. Do this twice more, taking your time to inhale deeply and exhale fully. In times of stress or anxiety the way that we breath can be affected, causing us to breathe at a shorter and faster rate. This increase in the pace or rate of your breathing causes you to take in less oxygen which of course adds more to your stress and anxiety. Slowing your breathing…

Getting Grounded + Staying
In my forever pursuit of mindful living, I am always in search of ways to stay grounded and to keep my head in times of difficulties. Mindful living and being “grounded” basically go hand in hand like PB & J or mac n cheese, you truly can not have one without the other. But what does staying “grounded” really mean? In its simplest form being grounded is all about “Control”. Not control over all the outside stuff going on around us, like traffic, things not going as planned etc, but control over yourself, your emotions and the things you personally believe. To “stay grounded” means you have the ability to…

Gratitude
Coming off a long weekend of intense body + mind/soul work through Yoga teacher training I was inspired to actively show gratitude this week. Dont get me wrong I am one to say a quick thanks to the universe when things work out and of course when I am protected from not so pleasant things or people. My goal was to tune in deeper on the gratitude front and truly “attempt” to appreciate things/people in real time. Surprisingly it was actually harder than I thought it would be. Most humans if thinking about things that they are grateful for or blessed to have ect, we think big ticket items such…
