Business, thought leadership + becoming. Straight talk on cultivating your own life + navigating new waters from Denawa Deniece
I didn’t grow up dreaming of becoming a mother. Having a baby of my own. The thought never actually occurred to me as a choice even. I was one of those girls that didn’t play with dolls + you could almost always find me climbing a tree or riding the four-wheeler. Somewhere covered in mud,…
Yesterday I turned forty-two. Every year I do this thing where I take honest inventory of the last 365 days. Not a resolution, truthfully I’m not built for resolutions. This inventory look is more like: what did this year actually ask of me + did I answer the call. Year forty-one asked a lot of…
I always joke that I was raised to be a palatable woman. Behind every joke there is a level of truth. Growing up it was encouraged to not show any emotion outwardly that wasn’t pleasant, this was especially true for girls + women. Nobody ever wanted to be labeled as “difficult” or the “angry” black…
I am leaving for Dubai (Im drafting this to be published before my trip, but we will see if that actually happens). My very 1st international trip by myself. The longest flight I have ever taken + Im having some major feelings around it. I wanted to carry on only. As a chronic over-packer I…
There is something pretty unnerving about building something on your own. In March I finally bit the bullet + brought forth an idea to someone. My vision. A one day retreat for ten women, intended to take place on a piece of land, the one thing that I had been circling + looking for the…
I sat with the text message for 2 hours. Rereading it. Tweaking it. Deleting + writing. I dissected how it sounded. How it would be received. Even with all those feelings + thoughts the text itself wasn’t hard text. No one had died. I want delivery bad news. It was 4 sentences asking someone I’ve…
Truth Moment right out the gate. I’ve spent the last year in BIG transitions. From becoming an empty-nester, living alone for the 1st time in my forty something years + shifting the whole shape of my work. I’ve been asked, but I’ve never fully said why. For majority of the last decade, I have had…
This past year was my first year as an “empty-nester” + technically my first time in my entire life living “alone”. At Forty-something years old, I was alone for the very first time ever. So much has changed in the last ten years going from living in a 4 bedroom 3.5 bath house with a…
I finally know what to call what I do I’ve been planning my return back to writing for longer than I would like to admit. Writing isn’t new to me, but it has been a very long minute since I have been consistent + so much has changed since my very 1st blog post on…
I want to start right out the gate with a Truth Moment, if thats ok? Truth is I have attempted to write this blog post more times than I care to actually admit. In this space, no words seem to do any justice to what I want to say or what I need to say….
